Eureka Persimmon Tree

Alternative Views:

The Eureka persimmon tree, Diospyros kaki 'Eureka' can be grown easily in zones 9 and 10, and this heavy producing tree can mature fruit that hangs on the tree until late December.  The Eureka persimmon was named after Eureka, California where it was released for nurseries to market.  The fruit is deep yellow in color, flat and about the size and shape of a tomato and seedless.  This astringent flavor should allowed to mellow by bletting, until the full color has developed, and the skin becomes soft.  The sweetness and taste of the Eureka persimmon deepens as the ripening time progresses.
