Alternative Views:

The Leconte pear tree, Pyrus communis x Pyrus pyrifolia 'Leconte' is a hybrid pear tree that is named after Mount Leconte, the tallest mountain in the South, and the former Governor Leconte of North Carolina,  This pear is crisp, smooth and delicious to eat when soft and ripe, and is an excellent selection to grow in zones 7, 8 and 9.  The Leconte pears are picked off the trees in August and ripened in the shade where they develop a refreshing taste and aromatic bouquet.
