The Montmorency cherry is large, delicious, and is a dark red fruit with rich, firm flesh. The Montmorency Cherry tree grows very well in the southern states where the temperature gets very warm. This sour variety of cherry is commonly planted to be used in baking, for making jelly or baking pies. Montmorency cherry has been labeled America's favorite pie cherry.
