Cherry Laurel Tree

Alternative Views:

The Carolina Cherry Laurel Tree, Prunus caroliniana, is a native American tree that is cold hardy enough to grow from zone 7 to zone 10 and can grow up to 40 feet tall at maturity. The trees are often planted in rows that are spaced 8 feet apart to grow as privacy screens, since the dense mass of leaves are evergreen and year-round will block out street noise and automobile exhaust fumes.  Carolina Cherry Laurel shade trees form clusters of almond-scented, small, fragrant, white flowers in March and April that mature into small black cherries that birds love to eat, and the trees are excellent sites to plant foot plots  for wildlife nesting birds and squirrels.  The Carolina Cherry Laurel tree is deer proof.
