Filbert Tree

Alternative Views:

Filbert trees are native nut trees that grow in the forests of the United States.  The early American Colonists brought the European filbert trees to plant in their gardens, but the native filberts seemed to be much more cold hardy and easier to grow than the European hazelnut (filbert) trees.  In the U.S. The American filbert tree  is very productive and is easy to cross pollinate by planting another tree within 50 feet for the best pollination.  The American filbert trees will often begin bearing the first year that  it grows to 6 feet tall.

The filbert trees came with good root systems, so I expect them to establish themselves OK.  It's not quite April and we expect freezing weather here in New Hampshire for the next two weeks at least... so we'll see.
